More than 12.4 million children in America are at risk from hunger. 12.4 million - that’s one in six children. Consequences include poorer health, fatigue, hospitalization, behavioral difficulties and impaired scholastic performance. Share Our Strength aims to change that.

the RICE & BEANS challenge

Hi Guys! Thanks for stopping by! I have a little challenge for you and me that was set by a dear friend of mine. Her family is in the process of adopting two beautiful children from Haiti and in light of all of the tropical storms and the difference of basic lifestyles in general they've come up with a great way we can all participate in something small to make a BIG difference!!

Three Angels is the orphange in Haiti where her kids and many others call "home" I've included a link to their site and please feel free to explore. If you do accept the challenge please leave a comment to let me know. Thanks again!!

Here is how you can help!

Join the Green and Boone Families and take the Rice and Beans Challenge!

Rice and beans is a meal that our little ones at Angel House eat every single day. It is a staple for all Haitians. But the price of rice has nearly doubled and the cost of nearly everything has greatly increased.

Would you consider eating Rice and Beans for dinner one night a week for a month? It is so inexpensive! You can easily make enough rice and beans for your entire family for under $2!

Pick one night each week for the month of October and eat Rice and Beans. Take the money that you would have spent going out to eat or even making a regular meal at home and donate it to Three Angels.Use this special mealtime to talk to your children about poverty. Tell them that the meal they are eating is often the only meal that Haitians eat all day. Have a special prayer time for the people of Haiti, Three Angels orphanage, and all of the orphans that live there.

Our family has been doing this for a while now. We have replaced one of our "going out to eat" meals with Rice and Beans night. We figure that we save around $25 by staying home and eating rice and beans. If we take that money each week and donate it to Three Angels (instead of our already overly expanding waist line), we will be able to give $100 for the month! That might not be a lot, but if we all work at it together we can make a HUGE difference.

Will you join the Rice and Bean Challenge??? It will start October 1st!

After you've completed the challenge all donations can be sent to:
